Broncos Release New Burnham Yard Master Plan: What Could It Mean for Tailgating?
The Denver Broncos have released new master-plan renderings for Burnham Yard, offering a closer look at how the area surrounding the proposed new stadium could take shape.
The updated concepts divide the development into four areas — the North End, Village Center, Turntable and South End — and reflect changes made as the Broncos continue gathering community input.
For Broncos fans, however, an important part of the conversation is what happens outside the stadium on game day. Burnham Yard represents an opportunity to create an extraordinary new home for the Broncos while preserving something generations of fans have built: Denver's tailgating tradition.
WHY THIS MATTERS TO TAILGATERS
The final plans will determine much more than the stadium itself. Parking, vehicle access, gathering areas, pedestrian routes and the amount of space available around the stadium could all affect how Broncos fans tailgate.

We also believe the people who have created Denver's tailgating traditions should have a voice as the game-day experience is designed.

An Encouraging Detail — and an Important Question
One detail in the Broncos' updated rendering caught our attention. On the north side of the stadium, an area is actually labeled “North Tailgate.”
We were encouraged to see tailgating identified in the plan. But the rendering also raises an obvious question: What will “North Tailgate” actually be?
From the rendering alone, the area appears largely as landscaped open space with trees. Will fans be able to park their vehicles there and tailgate as they do today? Will it be a pedestrian gathering area? Will grills, tents, tables and traditional tailgating be permitted? How many fans will it accommodate?
We don't know yet — and that's precisely why now is the time for Broncos fans to be part of the conversation.
The Tradition Should Move With the Team
A new stadium at Burnham Yard represents an extraordinary opportunity to create a new home for Broncos football. As those plans continue to develop, we hope one thing remains part of the conversation: the tailgating culture generations of Broncos fans have built together.
Tailgating doesn't have to look exactly as it does today. But fans need places to park, gather, cook, celebrate and build the friendships and traditions that make Broncos game day something more than three hours of football.
